Across sectors like marine infrastructure, sustainable seafood logistics, freshwater systems, and hydrogen energy, innovators and early-stage startups face a common set of challenges: fragmented capital markets, limited domain-specific investors, weak branding and commercialization strategies, and long regulatory cycles. These barriers often prevent promising water-tech ventures from reaching scale, despite the urgency posed by climate change, water scarcity, and ocean degradation. Traditional venture capital firms frequently lack the technical insight or patience needed to nurture solutions in this complex, infrastructure-heavy space. It’s within this context that Oxidane Venture emerges. not just as a capital provider, but as a deep-impact partner focused on solving some of the world’s most pressing water-related challenges.

Established in 2020 and based out of the historic Sustainability House in Kristiansand (with additional presence in Copenhagen and London), Oxidane Venture is a niche impact-focused venture capital firm dedicated to championing startups at the intersection of water and technology. Rather than offering conventional financing, Oxidane offers a differentiated investment platform combining financial capital with active ownership as it provides domain expertise, ongoing support in brand strategy, and technical collaboration, positioning itself as a hands-on partner to entrepreneurs across sectors such as marine mobility, aquaculture, freshwater infrastructure, hydrogen energy, and circular seafood logistics . The firm often collaborates with external partners (e.g. Proxy Ventures on branding) to elevate its portfolio’s public presence and commercial positioning.

Oxidane’s approach centers around investing in teams addressing global megatrends such as climate action, clean water access, and life below water in alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Each portfolio company is selected for its potential both to generate financial returns and to create positive environmental and societal impact. These include:

  1. Aragea. A joint venture between Oxidane and industrial partner Otechos AS, Aragea develops modular green hydrogen systems for coastal and off-grid applications. Oxidane led its latest funding round in April 2024 to scale deployments in Scandinavia and Southeast Asia.
  2. Lift Ocean. A Norwegian startup developing hydrofoil-based marine transport infrastructure to reduce emissions and fuel consumption in ferries and coastal vessels.
  3. Eco Trawl. Specializing in sustainable fishery monitoring tools, Eco Trawl offers AI-powered nets and onboard diagnostics to reduce bycatch and marine ecosystem damage.
  4. Fished. A B2B seafood procurement and logistics platform, Fished digitizes supply chains and enhances traceability for fisheries and restaurants alike.
  5. Intoto. Focused on smart freshwater infrastructure, Intoto develops sensor-based systems that detect leaks, contaminants, and inefficiencies in urban water networks.
  6. Alotta – A logistics and cold-chain optimization platform tailored for circular seafood distribution, helping coastal communities reduce spoilage and emissions from transport.
  7. Orca Connex – A joint venture between Oxidane and industrial partner Otechos AS, Orca Connex develops modular off-grid hydrogen energy and power systems tailored for coastal and island-based communities.
  8. Smart Ocean – Specializing in real-time ocean intelligence and monitoring, Smart Ocean deploys sensor-equipped buoys and seabed nodes to collect high-resolution environmental data.

Looking ahead, Oxidane Venture is positioning itself to become the go-to investor for the blue economy and climate-resilient infrastructure. With a clearly defined niche, active ownership model, and a portfolio solving real-world water and ocean challenges, the firm represents a new kind of venture capital, one that understands that the future of the planet runs through its water systems.
