Compliance in the maritime world can feel like navigating through fog without radar. Shipowners, yards and suppliers face an ever-evolving storm of environmental regulations, complex documentation demands, and constant scrutiny over hazardous materials and sustainability performance. One missing certificate or outdated chemical sheet can halt operations, trigger costly delays, or even jeopardize a vessel’s global trading rights. These pain points pile up, slowing progress and straining resources across the fleet. Metizoft AS believes it can cut through this complexity, providing the clarity, digital control and expert guidance needed to keep ships compliant, sustainable and confidently sailing toward a greener future.

Founded by Gry Cecilie Sydhagen and backed by an experienced executive team including Clement Chang, Peder Grankel, Andreas Gulliksen, Stig-Erik Nogva and Øyvind Sivertsen, Metizoft AS was established to enhance sustainability and environmental control in the maritime sector. Its early focus centered on mapping hazardous materials onboard vessels and ensuring full regulatory compliance, laying the foundation for a safer and more responsible shipping industry.

Metizoft AS offers a comprehensive suite of sustainability and compliance solutions designed specifically for the maritime industry, addressing the growing global demand for environmentally responsible ship management. Its core product line revolves around digital platforms and expert services that help shipyards, shipowners, and suppliers comply with international environmental regulations such as the EU Ship Recycling Regulation and the IMO Hong Kong Convention.

The flagship solution Inventory of Hazardous Materials (IHM)is a fully integrated system that identifies, records, and monitors all potentially hazardous materials used in vessels throughout their life cycle. This enables companies to ensure regulatory compliance and safe ship recycling. In addition, Metizoft’s Chemical Management System provides real-time control of onboard chemicals, allowing operators to track substances, assess safety data sheets (SDS), and maintain digital documentation for inspections and audits.

fThe company’s ESG Reporting Platform empowers clients to generate data-driven sustainability reports aligned with emerging ESG standards, promoting transparency and measurable environmental impact. Another key product, Life-Cycle Assessment (LCA), allows maritime operators to evaluate and minimize their carbon footprint by analysing environmental performance from design to decommissioning. Complementing these software tools, Metizoft also delivers Ship Recycling Supervision and Supply-Chain Documentation Management services to ensure traceability and compliance across global operations. Altogether, Metizoft’s ecosystem of tools and consulting expertise provides the maritime sector with a unified digital framework to manage compliance, sustainability, and circular-economy goals efficiently and effectively helping companies not only meet regulations but also achieve long-term environmental leadership.

Metizoft secured a NOK 160 million (USD 15.8 Mio) investment in August 2023 through a transaction involving both a share purchase and a share issue. The investors comprised two Norwegian firms: Nysnø Climate Investments, a state-owned climate investment company based in Stavanger, Norway, and Dovetail AS, a technology investment company backed by Ferd Impact Investing and Skeie Technology, also Norwegian-based. The backing by these strategic investors not only provided substantial capital but also brought expertise in climate solutions and digital technology, positioning Metizoft for accelerated global growth in maritime sustainability software.

Final Thought
Metizoft demonstrates that the future of shipping is not only defined by how far vessels can travel, but by how responsibly the industry protects the ocean that carries them. By unifying regulatory compliance, hazardous-materials control and sustainability reporting into one digital ecosystem, the company transforms complex environmental rules into a clear navigation chart toward greener operations. As global pressure grows for decarbonization and circular economy practices, Metizoft emerges not just as a compliance provider but as a strategic partner guiding maritime players toward a future that is more responsible, efficient and genuinely ocean-friendly.
