Sourcemap is a New York-based software company that offers a cloud-based platform for mapping, monitoring and managing complex global supply chains from raw materials through to finished products. Their offering is particularly targeted at companies needing to ensure visibility, traceability and compliance amid increasing regulatory scrutiny on sourcing, environmental impact, labor practices and corporate accountability.
Sourcemap emerged from academic research at MIT Media Lab. In 2011, Leonardo Bonanni was completing his PhD at MIT and observed that many large manufacturers lacked visibility beyond their first-tier suppliers especially in the wake of major supply disruptions such as the 2011 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami in Japan. The core insight: further upstream in supply chains (raw materials, second-tier suppliers) lie significant risks whether in labor practices, environmental impact or logistical disruptions and companies lacked technology to effectively map or monitor those tiers. Since launching commercially, Sourcemap has positioned itself as one of the first SaaS platforms offering end-to-end supply chain mapping and risk-monitoring capabilities.

Sourcemap provides a cloud-based supply chain mapping and transparency platform that allows companies to visualize, monitor, and verify every step of their supply network from raw material sourcing to finished goods. The platform is designed to solve one of the biggest challenges in global trade: the lack of visibility beyond first-tier suppliers. With Sourcemap, organizations can build interactive maps of their supply chains, identifying each supplier, subcontractor, and production site involved in the creation of a product. This end-to-end visibility helps businesses ensure ethical sourcing, regulatory compliance, and sustainability performance.
At its core, Sourcemap integrates data analytics, geospatial visualization, and risk intelligence. It automatically tracks supplier relationships, evaluates risk exposure, and provides real-time alerts for potential disruptions. The system also cross-references suppliers against global compliance watchlists, helping companies avoid legal and reputational risks. Additionally, the platform offers AI-driven risk scoring, transaction monitoring, and due-diligence workflows that align with U.S. and EU supply chain laws like the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act (UFLPA) and the European Union’s Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD).
Sourcemap’s platform is highly customizable and integrates with major enterprise systems such as ERP, procurement, and sustainability management software. It supports multi-tier mapping, allowing users to upload supplier data, verify supplier declarations, and track materials through every stage of production. This capability is critical for industries such as fashion, food & beverage, electronics, automotive, and manufacturing, where material traceability and compliance are vital. Beyond compliance, companies also use Sourcemap for ESG reporting, carbon accounting (Scope 3 emissions), and crisis response planning.
The investment story of Sourcemap is anchored by deep partnerships with venture backers who believe strongly in the imperative of supply-chain transparency. In its Series A round in March 2022, Sourcemap secured US$10 million led by Energize Ventures, a Chicago-based climate-software specialist, with participation from E14 Fund, a MIT-affiliated early-stage deep-tech investor. A year later, in June 2023, Sourcemap closed a US$20 million Series B round, again led by Energize Ventures with E14 Fund doubling down, to fuel global expansion and accelerate its real-time mapping & monitoring capabilities. These investors are U.S.-based and highly selective: Energize Ventures is focused on software that supports the energy transition and sustainability infrastructure, and E14 Fund supports MIT-born companies transforming traditional industries.
