Bioceanor is a French blue tech startup that combines artificial intelligence (AI), marine biology, and data analytics to provide real-time and predictive water quality solutions for aquaculture and environmental monitoring. Its flagship product, AquaREAL, helps fish farmers and environmental managers anticipate changes in water conditions, improve fish welfare, and reduce operational risks.

The company, founded in 2018 in Sophia-Antipolis, France, by Samuel Dupont and Charlotte Dupont, was formed to address a significant gap in aquatic environmental monitoring: the lack of continuous, automated, and predictive water quality data. Traditional manual sampling methods do not deliver real-time insights, making aquaculture management and ecosystem protection unnecessarily challenging in today’s digital world. Bioceanor’s innovation bridges this gap by leveraging connected sensor systems and AI to deliver continuous analytics and forecasts.

Bioceanor’s core product, AquaREAL, is an AI-driven water quality monitoring and forecasting platform designed for aquaculture operators, environmental agencies, and marine stakeholders. The system integrates a network of autonomous, connected sensors that collect real-time data on key water parameters such as dissolved oxygen, temperature, salinity, turbidity, chlorophyll-a, and pH. These continuous data streams are processed through Bioceanor’s machine-learning algorithms, which generate short-term predictive models, typically offering up to 48 hours of water quality forecasts.

AquaREAL provides proactive alerts, risk scoring, and actionable recommendations that help users optimize feeding strategies, adjust farm operations, prevent fish mortality events, and maintain regulatory compliance. The platform includes a cloud-based dashboard that visualizes trends, anomalies, and long-term patterns, allowing users to make faster and data-backed decisions. By combining advanced environmental sensing, AI modelling, and automated analytics, AquaREAL enables aquaculture farms and environmental managers to shift from reactive monitoring to predictive, precision-driven water management.

Bioceanor has successfully attracted investment through multiple funding rounds to support its growth and international expansion. Since its founding in 2018, the company has completed three major funding rounds, beginning with a €1.5 million seed round in 2020 backed by Region Sud Investissement, Inventures Investment Partners, and Blue Oceans Partners to help accelerate technological development and global deployment of its solutions. Subsequent rounds included €1.5 million in 2023 from investors such as The Yield Lab Europe, Inventures Investment Partners, Ifremer Innovation Investissements, and Caisse d’Épargne Côte d’Azur. Most recently in 2025, Bioceanor raised €2 million led by Go Capital, with renewed support from The Yield Lab Europe and Caisse d’Épargne Côte d’Azur, as well as contributions from EY Ventury Avocats. These investors are primarily based in France and Europe, including regional French funds and European venture capital firms focused on sustainable and blue-economy technologies. This strategic backing has enabled Bioceanor to scale its AI-driven water quality platform, expand internationally, and enhance its product offerings for aquaculture and environmental monitoring.

Final Thoughts

Bioceanor stands out as an innovative player in the blue economy, empowering aquaculture and environmental stakeholders with real-time and predictive water quality tools. With a strong scientific foundation, AI expertise, and strategic investments from European investors, the company is not only enhancing fish farming operations but also contributing to sustainable ocean stewardship. Its platform AquaREAL reflects a broader shift toward data-driven decision making in aquatic industries, setting new standards for productivity, welfare, and environmental resilience.
